The Nintendo Switch 2 launch is little over a month away, and now most of the world has had the chance to pre-order the console. If you’re getting one on launch day, you probably already have your order in (and if you don't, high demand means you might miss out), and the next question is what games you want to play on it.
Mario Kart World is the easy answer, but there are loads more games up for consideration. You might not have played the amazing Street Fighter 6 yet, the two open world Zelda games are getting launch day Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, and there are even new third-party games like the F-Zero-inspired Fast Fusion. Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games are games you can play on Nintendo Switch, but you can upgrade to the Nintendo Switch 2 version for a better experience. At launch, you can get the two open world Zelda games as upgraded Nintendo Switch 2 Editions.
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – June 5, 2025.
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – June 5, 2025.
Post-launch, Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrades will be available for the following games.
- Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV – July 24, 2025.
- Kirby and the Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World – August 28, 2025.
- Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition – 2025.

Every Nintendo Switch game getting a free Switch 2 update
While “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” games come with some kind of new feature or functionality, like Zelda Notes or the new content in Super Mario Party Jamboree + Jamboree TV, there is a nice little list of existing Nintendo Switch games that will get free updates to run better on Nintendo Switch 2. The upgraded versions of these games will be available at launch.
