After choosing your race and birthsign, the last choice Oblivion requires you to make to complete your character is your class. These will give you extra skill bonuses and will determine what your Major and Minor stats are, which determine how you’ll level up in Oblivion Remaster’s new levelling system.

We’ll break down what he best classes are from each of the major archetypes so you can be best equipped to deal with the coming threats. In case you’re reconsidering your earlier choices though – as the game does let you rebuild your character before leaving the tutorial – check out our guide to the best races in Oblivion and the best birthsigns in Oblivion to be sure.

Best Combat classes in Oblivion Remastered

The Crusader class in Oblivion Remastered
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered / Bethesda

If you’re looking for a simple archetype here, then the basic Warrior, Archer, and Rogue trio are easy choices, as each will give you a decent set for your entire adventure.

However, if you’re looking for something a little more specialized, then we suggest going with the Crusader. They have similar Blade, Blunt, and Heavy Armour proficiencies as the Warrior, but with the added skill is Restoration, letting you play a good healer on the side.

Alternatively, you could go for the Knight, which again is very similar to the Warrior, but with a bonus to Speechcraft, making dealing with NPCs a lot easier.

Best Magic classes in Oblivion Remastered

The Spellsword class in Oblivion Remastered.
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered / Bethesda

Spellsword is easily the best class here as it gives you a good mixture of combat capabilities. With bonuses in Blade, Block, Heavy Armour, Destruction, and Restoration, it really does everything you could possibly want if you’re looking for a balanced spread of everything outright offensive.

If you’d rather ditch the melee weapons altogether, though, then Sorcerer is the best all-rounder when it comes to Magic, having all the schools of magic as their Major Skills while focusing on the Endurance and Intelligence attributes to keep you in the fight.

Best Stealth classes in Oblivion Remastered

The Assassin class in Oblivion Remastered
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered / Bethesda

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Assassin is one of the best here as it gives you all the tools you’ll need. Acrobatics, Blade, Light Armour, Marksman, Security, and Sneak proficiencies will set you up perfectly to be a shadow that slices necks before they even have a chance to be spotted.

If you’re looking for something a little less aggressive, though, then Bard is a good option, as their boosts to Merchantile and Speechcraft will help you out in NPC-heavy quests, of which there are a fair few in Oblivion.
