Murder is fun – in video games only, of course – and The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is happy to let you take up murder as your profession by joining the Dark Brotherhood. This secret order of assassins works in the shadows and performs killings for payment, so it’s easy to see why any aspiring adventurer might want to sign up, especially if they’re already of a sneaky disposition.

We’ll explain how to join the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion so you can get your fix of slicing necks.

It’s easy: Murder someone. No really, that’s it.

You can kill any NPC that it is considered to be a crime to kill (so things like bandits don’t count), and that’ll be enough. Whether you get caught or remain undetected, a message will appear in the top corner of your screen that says “Your killing has been observed by forces unknown…” so you’ll know you’re on the right track.

Once you get that message, head to an inn or any home you own and sleep there. You’ll be woken by a Speaker of the Dark Brotherhood who will offer you a place and give you your first assignment to prove your worth.

From there, the questline begins. Much like joining the Thieves Guild, all of the quests in this questline earn you infamy points (as does getting caught doing murders), so we recommend you join the Fighters Guild first, as high infamy will make it difficult to join them.
