If you’re looking for side quests to tackle in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, then the game’s various guilds are a good place to start. The Mages Guild is one of the easiest to join as they have a large public presence in Cyrodill, which makes the process very similar to joining the Fighters Guild in Oblivion.

There are a couple of rules and restrictions, though, so we’ll explain how to join the Mages Guild in Oblivion so you can start their questline.

The Mages Guild has guild halls in every major town in Cryodill, except Kvatch and The Imperial City, the latter of which instead has the Arcane University. Joining the guild is as simple as going up to the leader at any guild hall and asking to join – if you don’t know who the leader is, talking to the other members there about it will direct you to them.

Provided you don’t currently have an active bounty, the guild will immediately accept you, but they won’t let you into the Arcane University yet. Instead, you’ll have to complete the “Join the Mages Guild” quest, which requires you to go to every guild hall in Cryodill and complete a quest for the leader there to get their recommendation.

Of course, there are plenty of other guilds in Oblivion, so check out our guides below to join the others:
