Firaxis has revealed the key changes coming to Civilization 7 as part of its next patch. Update 1.2.0 will prepare the turn-based strategy game for a highly requested feature, namely players being able to spawn in the Distant Lands. While that will only be possible after a future update, the developers are laying the groundwork for it by making Treasure Resources spawn on all of the landmasses available on a map. They’ll act as regular resources when found in the Home Lands and as Treasure Resources when found in the Distant Lands.

Furthermore, different resources will spawn in the two hemispheres to give each of them more of an identity and enhance the experience of finding the new world. Adding to these changes is the introduction of ten fresh resources to diversify the portfolio:

  • Tin
  • Rubies
  • Rice
  • Mangoes
  • Clay
  • Limestone
  • Hardwood
  • Wild Game
  • Flax
  • Llamas

While spawning in the Distant Lands is still some ways off, another community request is going to make it into version 1.2.0: You’ll finally be able to play in multiplayer as teams, earning a win together.

In terms of gameplay, a balancing pass over the food and growth system means that Cities and Towns should grow a bit more smoothly in the future without hitting a brick wall all of a sudden, while the frequency of natural disasters will be turned down in the light and moderate settings.

In any case, dealing with these should be a little easier after the update thanks to the addition of a Repair All button to settlements. Other quality-of-life improvements come in the forms of a new button that lets you upgrade all units packed into a Commander, the latest completed building being shown on settlement screens, research queuing, a reduction of Town Specialization notifications, tiles used to activate Great People being highlighted, and more.

Fans will be especially happy to see the One More Turn button at the end of their games, in case they want to spend a bit more time with their empire.
