Crusader Kings 3 surpasses four million sales as biggest-ever expansion looms

That’s a lot of casual murder and inbreeding.

Paradox Interactive announced that grand strategy game Crusader Kings 3 has surpassed four million sales across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S earlier this year. That’s a whole lot of people spinning intrigues, murdering innocent children to claim their rich inheritance, and marrying their siblings to keep the bloodline pure.

“Seeing Crusader Kings 3 succeed in both the computer and console spaces is such a treat for us,” commented game director Alexander Oltner. “Millions of people are engaging with history and writing their own dramatic tales of success and failure, which is a major goal of ours. CK3 turns five this year, and we're happy to know that there are millions more stories waiting to be told.”

Released in 2020, CK3 has been supplied with a steady stream of DLC to enhance its flavor and mechanics. Upcoming expansions in 2025 – running under the banner of Chapter 4 – include what likely is the biggest expansion Paradox has ever done for any of its games: All Under Heaven will extend the game’s map all the way to Japan, enabling players to experience being a ruler inside of regions such as China, Korea, and Japan as well as most of Southeast Asia.

Ahead of this immense expansion, Paradox delivers a bespoke nomad experience with Khans of the Steppe and a brand-new event pack called Coronations. Khans of the Steppe, especially, is a natural bridge towards All Under Heaven with peoples like the Mongols interacting with both East and West throughout history.
