Polish developer 11 bit studios has announced Frostpunk 1886, which is planned to be released for PC in 2027.

Frostpunk 1886 will build on the foundations of the original Frostpunk, reenvisioning the title in Unreal Engine 5 and expanding on it with fresh content and systems. Additionally, mod support will finally be possible with the game being rebuilt in UE5.

“While Frostpunk 2 continues to forge ahead with free major content updates, a console launch, and downloadable content, this newly announced project marks a return to the franchise’s roots, offering both newcomers and longtime citizens of New London an evolved take on the harsh, morally challenging survival experience that started it all,” 11 bit studios stated.

Far from being a mere visual overhaul, Frostpunk 1886 “builds upon the core of the original, expanding it with new content, mechanics, laws, and – perhaps most excitingly – an entirely new Purpose path, offering a fresh experience even for the most seasoned players.”

Aside from mod support, rebuilding the game on UE5 opens the pathway to potential DLC from the developers, the studio teased. Development has apparently begun in early 2025 and details on the upcoming game will follow in the coming months.

11 bit studios reaffirmed its commitment to Frostpunk 2 at the same time, ending the reveal by stating: “In the meantime, fans can look forward to a future where Frostpunk 2 and Frostpunk 1886 evolve side by side — two paths forged in parallel, each carrying the vision of survival into unrelenting cold.”
