Kuro Games adds Wuthering Waves anniversary rewards, denounces leaks

Wuthering Waves is getting ready to celebrate its first anniversary, but in the best tradition of big open-world gacha games the festive occasion is being marred by some online drama. Initially, a lukewarm reaction by players to the announced rewards for the anniversary soured the mood — but that’s not an uncommon occurrence, because gacha gamers often expect too many freebies to come their way, leading to disappointment and online outrage.

It didn’t take long for this bad mood to fester into something more toxic, though: Players started to say that Kuro Games had announced lacking rewards on purpose in order to sweep in later with an apology and some extra freebies to get better publicity. This was seemingly confirmed through screenshots leaked from the beta test of update 2.3, which showed assets for a login event. Players, naturally, put two and two together to arrive at seventeen, viewing the leaks as confirmation that Kuro was merely trying to manipulate public opinion and already had material for the “apology event” ready to go.

When Kuro Games actually announced additional rewards to address the negative feedback around the anniversary, that toxicity transformed into a tornado and swept through the game’s community, leaving such an impression on the online discussion that the developer felt like it needed to address and clarify the issue.

Kuro Games stated that “certain unauthorized screenshots” were “illegally leaked” and misled the community, as the leaked assets belong to the already planned Gilded Nightmarket event, not the new apology login event.

“Please note that relevant compensations mentioned in our previous announcement will be issued via a dedicated Login Event, which is currently under development and scheduled to be launched within this week,” the developer clarified.

Players can expect to grab ten additional pulls each for limited banners, weapon banners, and standard banners thanks to the extra login event. Wuthering Waves 2.3 is scheduled to arrive on April 29, 2025.
