3DIVISION / Hooded Horse

Socialism transcends time in Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic’s Early Start DLC, which is coming to PC on May 22, 2025. In the latest expansion for the detailed city-builder, 3DIVISION and Hooded Horse will turn back the clock and allow players to start creating their utopia in the 1930s, 40s, or 50s.

Naturally, these additional start dates come with their own set of challenges and opportunities, allowing ambitious players to shape their socialist state over much longer time periods. To keep things as authentic as at the original start dates, the developers have created over 90 additional vehicles, deepened the systems surrounding the coal industry, expanded the number of building options to represent architectural changes in this period, and enlarged the tech tree.

Players can also erect brand-new monuments and build their ideal republic on maps of Moscow and Saint Petersburg — versions with and without pre-existing population centers are available.

Hooded Horse stated that all previously released content is compatible with the new start dates, so players won’t have to make tough decisions about which kind of experience they want.

Having garnered a 4.5/5 rating on Steam from over 19,500 user reviews, Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic is highly regarded among fans of the genre and provides a bit of a different take than we usually see, dealing with the planned economies and unique characteristics of a soviet state instead of the usual capitalist theme so ingrained in this category.

Published in 2024, the game offers tons of deep, complex systems players can get into, from production chains to transport logistics, and challenges them to face the practical aspects of soviet rule — you can build a socialist utopia or follow in the footsteps of history and rule your “comrades” with an iron fist.
