12 Best Formations in FIFA 20 Ultimate Team
By Max Mallow
FIFA 20 Ultimate Team is in the swing of things with players grinding Division Rivals and FUT Champions.
While figuring out the best players early on in the game is key, those players won't be utilized to the best of their ability without the right formation. Even further than that, formations allow players to build unique squads and then change in-game via custom tactics.
Tactics aside, here are the 12 best formations in FIFA 20 Ultimate Team.
12 Best Formations in FIFA 20 Ultimate Team
12: 4-5-1
4-5-1 is one predicated on one thing: attacking play. With two wide midfielders, two attacking midfielders and a striker up top, 4-5-1 is one of the most attacking formations in the game. Although, it does leave players open to counter attacks.
11: 4-1-2-1-2 Wide
Two striker formations have their clear merits and are among the most popular in the game this year. The 4-1-2-1-2 wide variation suffers from being too wide, but it's not the worst in the game.
10: 4-1-3-2
4-1-3-2 is more or less a compressed version of 4-1-2-1-2 wide, but not as condensed as the narrow variation. If you have the personnel, it's worth experimenting with this formation.
9: 4-3-1-2
4-3-1-2 is one of the lesser used formations, but any formation with two strikers and an attacking midfielder are strong in FIFA 20.
8: 4-2-2 (2) Holding
The less preferred version of the 4-4-2, the second variation has the two midfielders drop back into defending positions.
7: 4-3-2-1
One of the most narrow formations in the game, 4-3-2-1 allows your three forwards to make consistent runs behind the opponent's back line.
6: 4-2-2-2
4-2-2-2 is one of the most tried and true formations in FIFA Ultimate Team history. Offering two strikers, two attacking midfielders and two defensive midfielders, 4-2-2-2 is a strong option in-game and also easy for linking central based players.
5: 4-2-3-1 (2) Wide
A variation of the most popular formation from FIFA 19, 4-2-3-1 (2) pushes the two outside CAMs to wide midfielders.
4: 4-2-3-1
The most popular formation from FIFA 19 returns as a strong option this year. Dynamic attacking midfielders with two CDMs warrants both strong attacking and defensive play.
3: 4-4-2
Defensive tactics such as Drop Back are popular once again. Use the flat 4-4-2 in order to get two strikers but also
2: 4-3-3 (4) Attack
4-3-3's attack variation is popular among most content creators including Castro1021. He used said formation, albeit with superstar players, to achieve 30-0 in FUT Champions. Setting one CM to stay back allows strong build-up play between the two midfielders, the CAM and the forwards.
1: 4-1-2-1-2 (2) Narrow
4-1-2-1-2 narrow succeeds in offering strong build up play through the middle of the pitch and two strikers backed by a CAM. With how overpowered two striker formations are this year, this formation is one of the most, if not the most popular in the game
