5 Pokemon We Want to See in Pokemon UNITE
By Jack O'Dwyer
Pokemon UNITE's roster is booming following the Pokemon Presents digital event.
With the announcement of Gardevoir and Blissey on the official Pokemon UNITE social media, followed by Mamoswine and Sylveon heading to the game with the mobile drop, we've been wondering what other Pokemon Game Freak and Tencent have planned. Pokemon now has 900 unique creatures to choose from, so there's no shortage of options.
Here are our top five picks for who we think should be in Pokemon UNITE.
5 Pokemon We Want to See in Pokemon UNITE
1. Weavile
We can definitely see Weavile taking the role of a glass cannon assassin. Its swiftness on the battlefield and natural high attack make it born for this role—zipping from top to bottom and taking out lone wanderers. A Weavile on the field would make teams wary (and force a support to actually stay in their lane with a carry). We could imagine Weavile finding easy picks with an abandoned Charmander in the bottom lane or lying in wait to ambush a passing Gengar.
2. Steelix
Steelix has the potential to be a powerful defender with crowd control abilities. Its tough hide protects against several types of direct attacks while moves like Wrap or Bind can potentially root opponents to the spot before they can charge that Score—an easy pick for teammates to jump to their goal and fight in the safety of their healing buff. A good Steelix paired with Blissey could potentially help a beleaguered team break out of a spawn lock in a pinch.
3. Lycanroc
This could be tough to work out considering Lycanroc's handful of forms, but if Game Freak made Eevee work then why not Rockruff? We assume Midnight Lycanroc would be the most plausible choice as the most popular of the three. It has the potential to be a fun Halloween release, as well, given its werewolf aesthetics. Regardless of form, Lycanroc should have a kit that makes the player feel like an apex predator. A tracking move that reveals one (or more) opposing Pokemon's positions would be a real game-changer. Something like a "marked for death" advantage where the enemy is revealed and suffers bonus damage from Lycanroc until either party dies.
4. Crobat
Why not turn the ever-annoying cave pest, Zubat, into a force to be feared in Pokemon UNITE? Crobat has another move pool with the ability to stun or disorient opponents—perhaps even apply a status similar to "feared?" An enemy hit with Confuse Ray could wander about the map uncontrollably for five seconds to break an opposing play or simply stop that Pokemon in its tracks to protect another teammate. For this reason, we think Crobat would be integral aerial support with any composition.
5. Sirfetch'd
While a new evolution, we see a lot of potential with Sirfetch'd. This Pokemon would make a great tank support on the field with the capability to lead a dire push if needed. Its reach would be much longer with its leek weapon and could have a great moveset catered to becoming a bulwark between enemies and allies—like the chivalrous knight it's based on. Sirfetch'd has the potential to sport a "protect others" ultimate where it offers its shield to another as a damage barrier for a certain value or duration.
