5 Things We Don't Want to See in League of Legends Patch 9.24
League of Legends Patch 9.24 is bringing a lot of new additions to the game. Like any other preseason patch, it's a first attempt at a balance pass for all the unique things Season 10 is bringing to Summoner's Rift. However, not all change is positive, as any Akali player will tell you. That in mind, here's a few things Riot should be keen to keep out of the latest Patch, in no particular order.
1. Elemental Rift Nerfs
The elemental rift mechanic is fun, really fun actually! While none of the shifts in the map are so drastic as to pull you out of the game or to cause confusion, having the map diversify itself has lead to some great moments of innovation and in general, helps each game feel unique.
2. Umbral Glaive Getting No Love
One of the preseason's more interesting decisions was to effectively split Duskblade of Drakkthar into two separate items. The original retained the bonus damage after enemies losing sight of you, while the ward-stomping "Blackout" passive was moved to a new lethality item, Umbral Glaive. Cheaper than most other items of similar type, this new toy works great for junglers or supports who consider building lethality (so basically just Pyke or Senna).
3. Nerf Ekko
Alright, before the entirety of r/EkkoMains decided to rage-tweet at me, Ekko is great. He's insanely fun to play, difficult without being convoluted, bursting with personality, and loaded with skins that ooze swag. All of that is wonderful, and considering the Boy Who Shattered Time is a fantastic champion lore-wise, he has no shortage of fans. However, recent buffs and shifts in his kit have made Ekko into a terrifying jungler, boasting an insanely high ban rate of almost 3% across all regions. It might be about time for someone else to sit on that throne, so here's hoping Patch 9.24 has some nerfs to offer Ekko, or at least some buffs for some under-performing champions to compensate.
4. Nerf Cassiopeia
Speaking of champions that are tearing it up in solo queue right now, Noxus' serpentine mistress has been an unrelenting force in the middle lane. A lot of this can be chalked up to the changes to Conqueror, which shaved off it's true damage conversion in favor of better scaling and more healing. This helped bring down some of the more egregious users of the Keystone, but certain champions are taking the impressive new healing Conqueror now offers and running with it.
5. Toxicity!!!!
This one's a bit of a cop-out, but it's worth it to mention that as we close the curtain on 2019 and prepare for the new year, we're also preparing for a brand-new decade! Your friend may have just made their twelfth "New Year, New Me" post on Facebook, and that might still be just as annoying as it was last year, but let's all take a second to really think about the people we play online with every day. Just like us, they have likes, and dislikes, and opinions, and feelings, and it's in our best interest to keep those in mind when we interact, even through something as anonymous as a video game. So when 9.24 hits, maybe try spamming one less question mark ping? Let's make 2020 the year we kill toxicity in ranked, eh?
