Amazon Games' MMO 'New World' Delayed Until Late September
By Jack O'Dwyer
Amazon Games announced they would be delaying their highly-anticipated MMO, New World, by a month to make improvements, among other things.
The announcement came via the official New World Twitter account early in the afternoon of Wednesday, Aug. 4. In the tweet, the New World team explained their reasoning behind the delay, citing player feedback and the desire to "smash bugs, improve stability, and polish the game."
"We are humbled by the support New World received from players around the world," the statement read, "The passion and enthusiasm you've shown for New World validates the work we've put in over the past year, improving the game based on your feedback."
Amazon Games' New World New Release Date Announced
The new release date for New World is Sept. 28, 2021.
"You've also given us a ton of feedback that we'll use to make New World even better. We want New World's launch to be a smooth and fun experience for all players, and that means making some improvements based on what you encountered during Closed Beta," the team explained.
This isn't the first time game has been delayed—which the studio acknowledged as the statement went on. Originally, New World was meant to launch this spring, but was pushed back for similar reasons stated here.
"This was not an easy decision to make," the statement continued, "We know this isn't the first time we've changed our launch date in pursuit of quality...But we want to be sure we deliver you the highest quality game possible at launch."
Fan reaction was mixed. Some were upset—having made time in their schedule taking off work or otherwise. A few expressed a lack of trust with the company to hold true to this new date due considering their reasoning hasn't changed since last time. There were even some comparisons to the disaster launch of Cyberpunk 2077 sprinkled through out.
The majority, however, seemed content, if not a little disappointed at worst. After all, nobody wants a half-baked or spiritual successor to CD Projekt Red's (CDPR) infamous release.
