The Apex Legends seasonal timeline continues to be a tried and true system. New season releases, new legend releases, weapon changes or additions, and sometime later on in the season limited time modes are introduced. For the first time this year, Respawn hints at a team deathmatch mode coming to Apex in 2021.

A popular feature of Apex Legends is its limited-time modes. Solos, Armed and Dangerous, Winter Express, Always Be Closing, and more add unique takes on the battle royale's style. One mode that's always been missing is a Team Deathmatch version of the game, but it's something we might see come to Apex in 2021.

Apex Legends Developer Respawn Hints at Team Deathmatch Mode Coming 2021

On Feb. 5, Respawn hosted a "ask us anything" session on Reddit. One Reddit user asked if we're going to receive a team deathmatch mode in the near future, to which Game Designer for modes and events Brian Vidovic responded: "We are always looking at ways to expand the play spaces of our Legends beyond Battle Royale. All I'll say is that we have a lot of really cool prototypes in the works."

It's important to note that a Team Deathmatch mode is not officially confirmed by Respawn, but this seems to be as close as it could be said without actually saying it. There is something we should keep in mind though.

Focus on how Winter Express was executed. During this limited-time mode, players were in teams of three versus two other teams of three for a King-of-the-Hill style game mode. Each week saw a rotation of Legends with different weapons, purple shields, and fast healing abilities. Based on what Respawn designed for Winter Express, these are some things we might see in a Team Deathmatch mode:

  • Selection of rotating Legends and gear
  • Fixed gear
  • Exclusion of items
  • Maps based on fixed circle location

Nothing is confirmed, and there are only hints and speculation. The only certainty we have is that 2021 will be a big year for Apex Legends.
