Apex Legends Devs Are Not Touching Valkyrie in Season 10
By Jack O'Dwyer
Apex Legends developers have no plans to change Valkyrie in Season 10: Emergence, according to Daniel Klein, Lead Game Designer.
Live service games like Apex Legends are constantly subject to change. The delicate balance of nerfs and buffs can change at any time thanks to a host of variables from new characters designed by developers to new instances of player behavior. It's rare that anything stays the same for too long—which is why players were surprised at Klein's admission of no changes for Valkyrie heading into Season 10.
Apex Devs Have No Plans for Valkyrie
On a post published to the "Valkyrie Mains" subreddit board, user Zaymonay800 expressed concern about the legend and her kit heading into the next season. The post detailed their worries of developers making changes aside from necessary fixes and noted they've enjoyed player her so far.
"I don’t think people have complained about her so the devs shouldn’t be pressured to do anything," they wrote, "I’ve really enjoyed playing with her. I didn’t want to play her the first few weeks due to everyone wanting her."
Others were quick to comment on the post in an effort to reassure their fellow player. User Affectionate_Bed_782 replied that they doubted anyone would attempt to tweak her abilities, writing that Valkyrie "honestly is so balanced at the moment."
As it turns out, Klein agrees. He replied to the thread to confirm that, indeed, "she's solidly in the middle of the pack." Aside from a higher pick rate—which, according to him, is common with new and mobility-based legends—there appears to be nothing unusual about her.
"I foresee no need for any changes in the near future." He wrote.
Klein went on to reaffirm his stance in a separate reply to another commenter on the same post. User BaeDrAjay disagreed with the thread, stating Valkyrie was overpowered in random matches. She and Octane need nerfs in this area, according to them.
"Her jetpack is obviously waaaay too strong for aggressive / chaotic PUBS gameplay," they wrote, "She can escape bad situations over and over and over without ever being punished and is an incredibly easy legend to do well with because of this."
However, the numbers "don't agree" with this sentiment, he wrote. Her win rate is "roughly the same" across all skill brackets when compared to similar legends with alike kits.
"Where her high mobility is definitely an asset in brainless pub style play, this is also where players will be careless enough to expose themselves by flying at the wrong time," he explained, "It seems to self-regulate."
Apex Legends Season 10: Emergence launches on Aug. 3.
