Apex Legends Players Don't Like Looting Animation, Request Removal
By Jack O'Dwyer
Some Apex Legends players aren't partial to the looting animation legends perform when picking up a fallen ally's banner.
The development team for Apex Legends is known for its transparent communication and conversational friendliness with its player base and community. Unfortunately, this can sometimes be a double-edged sword. A section of players is taking issue with an animation their character performs when picking up a fallen teammate's banner.
Apex Legends Players Don't Like Looting Animation
According to a post on the Apex Legends subreddit, that section is console players. Reddit user AceHal0 published their plea on Friday, July 16, asking developers to "please make it so console can tap to pick a banner up and hold down to loot."
They also posted a clip to help illustrate the issue. In the video, the player goes through the process of looting a teammate's body, picking up their banner—the usual ritual. Unfortunately, the act of physically picking up the banner blocked the player from escaping. The animation cost them seconds on the field which quickly translated to joining their ally six feet under.
As one could imagine, the comments on the post were split. Some shrugged off the suggestion, placing the onus on AceHal0 to be better about their time management. The animation is meant to be there and take up time as part of the game. It's on AceHal0 to work that into their strategy. After all, just because something is annoying that doesn't automatically make it poor or broken.
HiddenxAlpha explained, "You made a choice. You started a revive at half health. You didnt pick up the banner pre-emptively. You wasted 2 seconds popping a medkit, only to stop it and THEN try and loot the Evo."
Others pointed out that console players weren't the only ones who had to pick up the banner first—it affects PC players, as well, making it a global mechanic.
A few went on to agree the animation was annoying, but the majority were squarely in the "non-issue" camp. The developers have yet to make their stance on this known.
