Astrologer Elden Ring Class Guide: Stats, Weapons, Armor
The Astrologer is the most straightforward magic-focused starter class in Elden Ring, and it can be a good option for new players thanks to the strength of its starting spells. Here's what you need to know to build the most effective Astrologer class in Elden Ring, including how to stat your build, what weapons to use, and which armor to wear.
Astrologer Elden Ring Class Guide: Stats
There are two schools of magic in Elden Ring: Incantations and Sorceries. Incantations are tied to Faith, and they certainly have their place in the game, but the Astrologer's high starting Intelligence set it up to take full advantage of Sorceries. These spells require higher levels of Intelligence to cast, and they scale their damage with Intelligence.
As a result, Intelligence is the most important stat for the Astrologer. After that, Vigor, which governs HP, and Mind, which affects your FP and therefore how many spells you can cast, are vital stats. Of tertiary importance are Dexterity, which speeds up your spell-casting, and Endurance, which allows you to wear more armor.
You can all but ignore Faith, Strength, and Arcane, though the last can be useful for item drop rates.
An ideal stat build for the Astrologer would look something like this:
- Vigor: 40
- Dexterity: 20
- Mind: 40
- Intelligence: 50
- Endurance: 25
- Strength: 8
- Faith: 7
- Arcane: 9
Astrologer Elden Ring Class Guide: Weapons
The Astrologer starts with a decent Short Sword, the decidedly mediocre Scripture Wooden Shield, and, most importantly, the Astrologer's Staff. This Staff is by far the most important weapon to the class, allowing the casting of spells. It will serve you well for most of the game, but if you want a relatively early upgrade, seek out the Demi-Human Queen's Staff.
To find it, head southwest of the starting location in Limgrave until you cross the Bridge of Sacrifice. Continue south along the road until it splits, with one path heading up north and then bending west. Follow that road, and aim for the northwest corner of the forest you enter. There you'll find the Demi-Human Forest Ruins. Kill the enemies inside, and the Demi-Human Queen will drop her staff on death.
Later on, you can replace that staff with Azur's Glinstone Staff, which you'll find in the Raya Lucaria Academy in the far northwest.
As far as spells go, your starter Glintstone Pebble is one of the best in the game in terms of FP-to-damage ratio. You can supplement it with Swift Glintstone Shard for more single-target damage, Comet for more of the same, or Founding Rain of Stars for some area of effect damage. But most important is to pick up as many spells as you can, try them out, and stick with the ones that work best for you.
Astrologer Elden Ring Class Guide: Armor
Spell-casters can really use any armor they like, but the two extremes make the most sense. On the one hand, staying light makes it easier to keep your distance from enemies. On the other, going heavy means having to worry less about maintaining that distance.
If you're staying light, you'll do well with the starting Astrologer set. You can replace it with the Raya Lucarian Sorcerer Set when you get to Raya Lucaria, which will typically be after you kill Godrick the Grafted, or Alberich's Set, which can be found near the Fortified Manor in Leyndell, Royal Capital, late in the game.
