Atomic Heart Multiplayer Feature Abandoned
Mundfish's upcoming FPS RPG Atomic Heart is set to release next month, but what became of its multiplayer feature?
Atomic Heart drops players into a world where humans and robots live together harmoniously. But, after a tragic accident which saw superpowered robots overthrow humans, the utopian world suddenly became far more dangerous.
Players must use a variety of weapons and combat skills, which they must upgrade and perfect, in order to combat the new deadly threat plaguing the world. Previously, Mundfish had been developing a PVP mode for Atomic Heart. Highlighted by PC Gamer, the game's website even listed the feature, saying:
"If you are ready to challenge other players, a secret railway will get you to a special region meant for PvP battle."
But, as we move closer to Atomic Hearts release date on Feb. 21, is a multiplayer PVP feature still on the table?
Will Atomic Heart be Multiplayer?
As published by Wccftech in a Q&A with game director Robert Bagratuni, it seems Atomic Heart will no longer feature multiplayer.
Bagratuni said, "The entire Atomic Heart experience will be single-player, focusing on the story and player experience,"
"No multiplayer add-ons are planned at this time."
Atomic Heart has been in development for quite some time, so its no surprise that plans have changed along the way. Speaking on the game's long development, Bagratuni said, "Our unwanted delay can be attributed to youth, ambition, innovation, and new technology! During the development process, we made the tough choice to abandon some ideas, even very big ones, like multiplayer. It was painful to have to make those kinds of choices, but it was the right decision."
Atomic Heart launches on Feb. 21, 2023 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC.
