Best Build for Lucario in Pokemon UNITE
By Jack O'Dwyer
Below are a few of the best builds we've put together for Lucario in Pokemon UNITE.
Lucario is one of the 20 Pokemon combatants available to play in Pokemon UNITE. It is identified as a melee-based "all-rounder"—meaning this Pokemon specializes in close encounters and can be used in a variety of roles. Its best stat is Mobility at three-and-a-half stars, followed closely by Offense and Scoring, then Endurance at three stars each, and Support in last with only half a star.
Pokemon UNITE has marked Lucario as an "Expert" difficulty character—but with the builds below, you can be battling like a pro in no time.
Best Build for Lucario in Pokemon UNITE
We've broken down our build advice into three categories: Items, Moves, and Placement. On all accounts, players will want to play to Lucario's primary strengths of Offense and Mobility while taking advantage of its "Steadfast" passive.
Battle & Held Items
Pokemon UNITE will gradually unlock more items for players to bring into battle to aid their chosen Pokemon. The two best Battle Items trainers should use when choosing Lucario are:
- X Attack
- Eject Button
The X Attack can be used for a Lucario who needs to hit harder in the middle of a team battle or take down a problematic opponent with a few hits. The Eject Button adds to its mobility, allowing it to escape situations where players find themselves out maneuvered or out numbered. The X Speed is an OK substitute in the meantime.
Pokemon UNITE allows players to assign a set of three different Held Items to each Pokemon. The best Held Item composition for Lucario is:
- Muscle Band
- Float Stone
- Scope Lens
This setup is all about putting more power behind Lucario's speed and attacks. Muscle Band is a popular cornerstone item in most builds due to its flat damage increase. Float Stone's speed boost allows this Pokemon to play the field between battles as much as possible. Meanwhile, Scope Lens procs during critical hits while raising the critical rate at the same time—a possibly situational pick that could be swapped with Rocky Helmet if needed.
Moveset
Lucario starts off with Quick Attack as its "R" and Meteor Mash as its "Rz." Quick Attack is a dash that has it rush toward a Pokemon to deal damage while Meteor Mash has crowd control capabilities with its shove mechanic.
The two moves offered to morph its "R" are Extreme Speed and Power-Up Punch.
While the name may sound hokey, Power-Up Punch is usually the best choice here. This move requires a few seconds to charge but reduces damage taken while doing so. Its upgrade eventually makes Lucario immune to hindrances while charging. Additionally, not only does Bone Rush reset this move's cooldown, Lucario's "Lz" Ultimate—Aura Cannon—also increases its damage immediately after use. Players should rely on this move as a finisher due to its extra damage against low-HP opponents.
The two moves available to morph its "Rz" are Bone Rush and Close Combat.
Players should default to Bone Rush for its extreme utility. Bone Rush still offers the same shoving mechanic as Close Combat, but adds even more effects on top of it. Prompting the move again while the bone is still active allows Lucario to rush toward it and deal damage along the way. It also resets the cooldown on its "R" once upgraded.
Placement
Pokemon UNITE is unique in its map design as it is one of the few MOBA's that doesn't have a middle lane. Instead, it has a middle area, that most genre veterans would refer to as the "Jungle." Lucario, therefore, would be classified as a good Jungler with additional bottom lane capability but limited top lane use.
Players would likely find the best success with a Pokemon like Lucario with high mobility and boosted attack moving between the bottom and top lanes as needed. Lucario's speed allows it to travel the field in a flash and its extra attack paired with crowd control can easily turn the tide of a team battle.
