Black Ops Cold War Prestige System: How it Works
The Black Ops Cold War Prestige System was announced weeks before the game’s release. Developers Treyarch and Raven Software have tried to mesh together the best elements of past progression systems in the previous Call of Duty games.
In Black Ops: Cold War, if you own the game already, you might have noticed that there already is a prestige system. If you reach the level cap of 55 then you can prestige and continue progression. Don’t worry about losing your progress though, because this prestige is not designed in the same way as games like Modern Warfare 2 or the original Black Ops.
You won’t have to unlock every gun again, which was a sore point for many players. The pain of finding a gun with the exact attachments you loved, only to have to reset through prestige and unlock everything again was often frustrating.

This time, that problem has been removed. Prestige in Black Ops Cold War means that you’ll be able to unlock more items and cosmetics. The main draw of the system is getting to show off the icon, which you can display prominently to anyone in your game or on your friends list. As of Nov. 29, you can prestige three times and unlock new emblems every time. Reaching Prestige 2 will reward you with a special “Nightfall” skin for the Hauer 77.
Prestige doesn’t just stop there though, progression is set to change drastically in December’s upcoming patch. Players can look forward to cross-progression between Warzone, Modern Warfare, and Black Ops: Cold War. Your prestige will carry over between the three games.
Additionally, developers will be expanding the system, adding more levels of prestige and varying them with every season. In a post by Treyarch, they shared that, “You can earn up to three Prestiges before Season One, and up to four Prestiges each Season after that for a total of 25+ Prestiges across all Seasons.”
This progress will carry over each season.
