Call of Duty Developer, Beenox, Opens a New Studio in Montréal
Call of Duty developer Beenox is opening a new, second location in Montréal, the Activision-owned studio announced Tuesday.
The news comes less than a week removed from Beenox pioneering the Rebirth Island Reinforced content for Warzone Season 2 Reloaded, the largest update to the map ever.
"This recruiting investment will seek to increase Beenox’s staff by more than 20% and is the Québec City-based studio’s second major expansion in less than two years under the leadership of Nour Polloni, Studio Head at Beenox," the studio's announcement reads. "To date, the studio employs over 400 talented game development professionals, including more than 150 hired since last year alone."
In recent years, Beenox has played a versatile role for Activision, helping to develop titles such as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2, to Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War in 2020 alone.
On March 11, Activision first announced that Call of Duty: Warzone will be getting a mobile release.
Although a timeline for when players can expect the mobile version to launch is still yet to be seen, Beenox confirmed that they will be playing an integral role in the project.
"The arrival of Beenox in Montréal also allows the studio to support its ongoing development projects across Activision’s Call of Duty series," the announcement reads. "The team has built a solid reputation for its ability to provide essential input to the blockbuster franchise, including creating new content for each season of Call of Duty: Warzone as well as collaborating to co-develop an all-new mobile experience within Call of Duty."
Beenox, headquartered in Quebec City, employs nearly 50 of its over 400 team members in the Montréal metropolitan area. The team is currently hiring for roles in their programming, design and art departments, with many having a focus on mobile.
"I am very excited to announce the arrival of a new Beenox studio location in Montréal," Beenox Studio Head Nour Polloni said. "We are counting on the city’s great diversity of talent to build a team that will allow us to broaden our creative perspective and bring even more diversity to our development. This investment in Montréal is the next key step in our studio’s growth as we continue to support the creative ambitions across the Call of Duty franchise."
Montréal International and Investissement Québec International are supporting Beenox in its expansion project.
The location reveal of the Beenox studio in Montréal is said to be coming in the next few months.
