Destiny 2: Season of the Chosen: Everything You Need to Know
By Allan Zeng
The newest Season for Destiny 2 is going live next Tuesday, so here’s everything you’ll need to know heading into it.
The Story Will Involve the Cabal
After last Season’s storyline revolved around the Hive, and more specifically, the Wrathborn forces of the Hive god Xivu Arath, this Season will revolve around the Cabal. Caiatl, the new leader of the Cabal and daughter of former Cabal emperor Calus, appears to have proposed an alliance to defeat Xivu Arath. However, it seems she expects the player and their allies to submit to her first. Naturally, that alliance was rejected, and the Cabal will be the enemy faction players will fight. Whether the forces of the Last City are now at war with Caiatl, or instead proving themselves worthy to her so they can form an alliance on equal footing, remains unclear for now.
A New PVE Activity
The new activity for Season of the Chosen will be a PvE activity known as the Battlegrounds. There will likely be four Battlegrounds, Behemoth, Hailstone, Cleansing, and Oracle, and they all will be 3-man matchmade activities, just like the Forge activities from Season of the Forge two years ago. This activity will of course require players to buy the Season pass, which will cost the usual $10.
An Unknown Exotic Quest
An exotic quest is confirmed to becoming, but the details are so far unknown. However, the logo for the teaser of the quest is the Tex Mecahiniac faction’s logo. Being the faction who made the popular Hand Cannon, the Last Word, maybe the gun that is rewarded will be similar.
Season Challenges Will be Introduced
Bungie announced Destiny 2 will move away from weekly bounties and instead introduce Seasonal Challenges. These challenges will give players a guide of what milestones or accomplishments they should get done. They will vary in difficulty, from simply defeating Primeval Envoys to completing a Grandmaster Nightfall. Completing these challenges will reward players with experience and Bright Dust. Each week comes with 10 new challenges, and to reduce FOMO, players can complete a certain week's challenges even after that week has already passed.
There Will be Free Content
As usual, not everything will be paid content. Certain things are coming for free, such as the H.E.L.M., a new area where players can open Umbral Engrams (a returning feature from Season of the Arrivals), receive bounties, open the postmaster, and access their vault. Three new strikes will also be arriving for free. One new strike, the Proving Grounds will be released to all new players March 30. Two returning strikes from the original Destiny, Fallen S.A.B.E.R. and The Devil’s Lair, will be released the same day the season drops. The Guardian Games event from last year will also be making a return, with a new set of armor. The Season's artifact, the Bell of Conquests will be free for all players to earn and level up. And as expected, Trials of the Nine and Iron Banner will also be open to all.
Destiny Season of the Chosen will last from Feb. 9 to May 11.
