Gearbox E3 2021 Recap: Everything Shown During Gearbox's Presentation

Gearbox framed its presentation as an '80s-style informational video about "Gearbox University," before running through its announcements, reveals, and so on. Here's everything the company talked about during its presentation.

The Borderlands Movie

Randy Pitchford showed up on the set of the Borderlands movie to give a tour of the set. Ariana Greenblatt in costume as Tiny Tina was blurred out during the video, and director Eli Roth made an appearance. The movie will introduce Eli Atlas for the first time, and the actor who plays him in the film, Edgar Ramirez, also appeared in the on-set video.

Pitchford then introduced the producers Emmy Yu and Ari Arad, two producers with a history working in Marvel movies. The two producers said Pitchford really made them work to get the rights for the movie, but expressed excitement to be working.

Pitchford said shooting on the film was about halfway done.

Homeworld 3 Now in Production

Gearbox announced Homeworld 3 was now in production, though it showed little of the upcoming game, suggesting it was still in the early stages of development. The last mainline game in the series came out in 2003. It will be developed by Blackbird Interactive and published by Gearbox.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands

Senior producer Kayla Belmore appeared on stream to talk about the upcoming Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. She said it was inspired by Assault on Dragon's Keep, but it uses a new set of characters and world.

The dragon in the trailer is a wyvern enemy that will appear alongside goblins that Belmore says Gearbox has put its own spin on.

Tribes of Midgard Preview

Gearbox is producing Tribes of Midgard, and the game is set for release July 27 on PS4, PS5, and Steam. Players take on the role of a legendary warrior tasked with protecting Ygrdasil, the world tree, from invading hellspawn and giants. Up to nine players can team up, and you'll need the help — giants will attack the World Tree every few days, so you'll need to be leveled up, equipped with your strongest crafted weapons, and hiding behind plenty of player-built fortifications.

Godfall Announced for PS4

Godfall is coming to PS4 on Aug. 10, and will come with a free upgrade to the PS5 version. It will include the free Lightbringer update and the Lightbringer endgame mode. The matchmaking beta will also be available, as will more than 40 new items and 50 skins.

The game's first paid expansion, Fire and Darkness, will take players into the fire Realm for the first time. It will release the same day as Godfall on PlayStation.
