If you haven't been paying attention to EA Sports and had that itch to get back into FIFA this year, you might be wondering why the franchise has a different name this year.
EA Sports is entering a new era with its soccer/football franchise. FIFA announced in 2021 that the global body and EA Sports would be ending its partnership. "FIFA will adopt a new commercial positioning in gaming and eSports to ensure that it is best placed to make decisions that benefit all football stakeholders. FIFA is bullish and excited about the future in gaming and eSports for football, and it is clear that this needs to be a space that is occupied by more than one party controlling all rights," FIFA said in the announcement.

As such, FIFA 23 was the last EA Sports game to have the name in the title. Starting with this year's release, the franchise will be known as FC 24. "Everything you love about our games will be part of EA SPORTS FC – the same great experiences, modes, leagues, tournaments, clubs and athletes will be there. Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Pro Clubs and VOLTA Football will all be there. Our unique licensing portfolio of more than 19,000+ players, 700+ teams, 100+ stadiums and 30 leagues that we’ve continued to invest in for decades will still be there, uniquely in EA SPORTS FC," EA Sports said in the reveal.
What's the Last FIFA Title?
EA Sports FIFA 23 will be the last title released. Moving forward, the franchise will be called EA Sports FC. It's assumed the developer will keep up with annual releases.
What Does FC Mean in EA Sports FC 24?
FC, much like it does with real life clubs, stands for Football Club. An apt name for the franchise as EA Sports aims to conitnue to foster its player base in a symbolic club amid potential competition in the future.
Will FIFA Make Another Game?
According to FIFA's announcement back in 2021, the body adpoted a new position commercially for gaming and esports. There's been endless speculatuon that FIFA will partner with another popular sports game developer and include the name in the title.
Is 2K Making a Soccer Game?
There's been no confirmation regarding 2K stepping into the soccer/football space since EA Sports and FIFA parted ways. 2K is widely known for its NBA 2K franchise which releases simulation basketball games every year.
