Hideo Kojima Reportedly Teases Two New Games, and Drama, Film, and Anime Projects in the Works
Hideo Kojima recently discussed his goals and aspirations for Kojima Productions in the new year and the studio's future appears to be bright.
Thanks to Japanese game magazine Famitsu's annual end-of-year piece checking in on 127 game creators, we might just know what Kojima and co. have their sights on for 2022 — developing two new games and challenging various mediums of entertainment.
According to an English translation of Kojima's words in the piece by Gematsu, the studio known mostly for Death's Stranding thus far seemingly isn't playing it safe for their next couple of projects.
A big title, and a title that’s a new challenge. As the boundaries of entertainment disappear in the near future, I’d like to make this a year that we take a step forward into challenging different mediums and expressions.
- Hideo Kojima
With Kojima Productions having just launched a brand-new film, TV, and music division based in Los Angeles, it's certainly no surprise to hear that the renowned creator is now looking to make his own mark beyond gaming in 2022.
On Jan. 2, Kojima shared some more details on his plans in an interview with the Japanese radio show NHK Radio.
According to a quick recap and translation posted on Twitter by @Genki_JPN, Kojima mentioned that the aforementioned "big title" Kojima Productions is working on is "a big AAA title that everyone will say that they want to play," while the smaller "title that’s a new challenge" is one that is "not an open world or shooter game."
Furthermore, Kojima seemingly pinpointed that Kojima Productions' L.A. division will be working on producing drama, film, and anime projects.
