How Many Endings Are in the Quarry?
Until Dawn developer, Supermassive Games is back with another narrative horror adventure, and that means all its usual tricks back in the rotation. The Quarry's huge cast and branching narrative make it such that players can wind up with a shockingly large number of different endings — but all are ultimately variations of different sizes on two major endings. Here's what you need to know about the endings in The Quarry.
Total Number of Endings in The Quarry
Technically speaking, there are 186 endings, according to Supermassive. The Quarry director Will Byles told IGN that number in an interview back in April.
"Those stories, as you kind of branch through, go wide and they start to come back in again," he said. "It's kind of like the story itself is the variation, not just always the end. We worked out 186 different endings for these characters. Not just alive or dead [but] a whole variation of things like what could happen to them, but the stories that can happen are massively varied."
The biggest variations in-game are largely demarcated in-game as Patch Changes, but there are also more minute deviations players can make. Which characters survive is just the tip of the iceberg for variations — also vital is the amount of evidence players find. The more they find, the more convinced the hosts of the Bizarre Yet Bonafide podcast will be of the truth of the story.
10 Major Endings
Every ending in the game can be sorted into one of two categories. Either the player successfully lifts the curse, or the curse remains. Of the nine major endings, three see the curse lifted, and six see the curse remain in place.
Above the Law: Travis and Laura Hunt Down Silas
Several of the endings in The Quarry revolve around Silas, including what's widely considered the game's Good Ending. Accessing that ending, along with any of the others in which the curse is lifted, players must first get Travis and Laura to work together. That means jumping through a few hoops.
- In Chapter 3, allow Ryan to shoot Bobby and save Nick. He'll drop a vial filled with blood that will be useful later.
- In Chapter 7, have Laura loosen the brick by the bed in her cell. You'll need to climb up onto the bed and use the spoon lying on the windowsill.
- In Chapter 7, go up to the top floor of the police station and enter the last office. Inspect the locker inside and you'll find a syringe of tranquilizer. Take it and hide it behind the brick in the cell before you return to Travis.
- In Chapter 7, opt not to take Travis' gun.
- In Chapter 7, when Laura is pretending to be sick, successfully complete the QTE to have Laura tranquilize Travis
- In Chapter 9, successfully complete the QTE when Constance tries to grab Laura's gun, shooting her
- In Chapter 9, have Ryan leave the knife in his wound to prevent him from bleeding out
- In Chapter 9, opt not to stab Bobby as Ryan
- In Chapter 9, have Ryan choose to be bitten
- In Chapter 9, have Ryan shoot Chris in werewolf form
- In Chapter 9, after Laura thanks Travis for not killing her, respond suspiciously. Laura will eventually agree to help Travis track down Silas
With all that done, you'll be able to access the three lifted curse endings, plus two that have the curse remain in place.
