How to 1v1 in League of Legends
League of Legends is a game that requires immense team play, which can be difficult without an in game voice chat like Overwatch 2 or Valorant. Although it is a team game, players typically treat it as an individualistic game in Ranked Solo/Duo for the first half of the match.
Even though there is not an official 1v1 game mode in League of Legends, there have been numerous iterations used over the course of the game's history that players have emulated to prove who is better. The 1v1 aspect takes away the strategy around map and objective control, but it heavily emphasizes mechanical skill on specific champions.
Here are some ways to 1v1 on League of Legends.
How to 1v1 in League of Legends
As aforementioned, there is not a 1v1 game mode in League of Legends, so players have to improvise. If you ever want to conduct a 1v1 against someone, you must make a custom lobby from the play menu and invite an opponent.
Once the lobby is created, the first choice players must make is which map to conduct the 1v1 on, Summoner's Rift or Howling Abyss. Summoner's Rift allows players to recall to buy items and gain health/mana. Meanwhile, Howling Abyss forces players to stay in lane without being able to recall for anything. It is important to note that players are not allowed leave the mid lane on Summoner's Rift during a 1v1.
After the map is chosen, players need to decide whether they will use the same champion or not. Typically, players are allowed to ban three characters and pick anyone that is left available.
There are three traditional ways to win in League of Legends 1v1's:
- First player to reach 100 CS
- First player to kill their opponent.
- First play to destroy the first mid lane turret.
With these setup instructions and traditional win conditions set in place, you are ready to improve your skill in 1v1's.
