How to Complete a Sideways Encounter in Fortnite

The Sideways is a brand new feature in the world of Fortnite. Here's what you need to know in order to complete a Sideways encounter.

Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 8 has arrived. Simply titled "Cubed", this new season deals with the aftermath of the alien invasion. Cubes have fallen from the destruction of the alien Mothership and have been warping reality around them. These mysterious Cubes have affected their surrounding areas, opening up portals to the Sideways. Players will need to enter these portals and battle the Cube Monsters which plague the realms within.

How to Complete a Sideways Encounter in Fortnite

The first step to completing a Sideways encounter is to find a Sideway Anomaly - entry points into the Sideways. The anomalies appear as purple rifts which expand into a large orange dome once the player enters it. The locations of the anomalies change with each match, so players will need to reference their map and look for the purple rift icons to find one.

Once a player enters the Sideways Anomaly, they'll be thrust into a Sideways encounter. Players will be faced with waves of Cube Monsters, with each successful wave elimination filling up a yellow bar at the top of the screen. Fill that bar completely and try to stay alive. Doing so will complete the encounter and earn players a tidy set of powerful loot.

There are a couple of things to note when attempting this quest. First, a Sideways Anomaly isn't the only way to enter the Sideways. Players can also find Sideways Zones scattered around the map, which are areas that have been taken over by the Sideways. The problem here, though, is that a Sideways encounter cannot be completed in these zones, so it's best to avoid them for the purpose of this quest.

Secondly, make sure you're prepared when going into the Sideways Anomaly. These areas are fairly tough, and if you're eliminated by the Cube Monsters or even another player you will need to start the quest all over again. Build some walls and keep yourself well defended or risk being swarmed by these mysterious monsters.
