How to Fish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Knowing how to fish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is absolutely essential to putting together a comfortable living. Fish are a renewable and potent source of income, an integral part of the grind. They're also important for completionists looking to fill out the museum. Here's how to fish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
How to Fish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
The first step to fishing is to equip a fishing rod (shocking I know). With the rod equipped, find a fish-shaped shadow in any body of water around the island. The oceans, rivers and ponds will all be home to different types of fish. Rivers are further split into river mouth, river clifftop, and general river, as is the ocean into the area near the pier and the rest of the ocean.
Face your chosen body of water and press A to cast. When the shadow of a fish approaches your floater, be ready for it to pull the floater underwater. As soon as it does so, press A again to reel it in.
Don't press A too early or to late, though. Too early will scare away the fish, and too late will let it escape.
Higher quality fishing rods offer no benefit other than greater tool longevity. Anything you can catch with the best rod, you can also catch with the worst.
