How to Get the Kirin Mount in Final Fantasy XIV

The Kirin mount in Final Fantasy XIV is a tough one to get. Here's what you need to know.

Mounts in any MMO, and particularly in Final Fantasy XIV, are a great way to show off some of your achievements. Certain mounts are known for being either tricky to get hold of, or requiring a lot of effort. What better way to cement your status in the world than by displaying your hard earned loot in all its glory.

The reason the Kirin mount takes a fair bit of patience to obtain is due to the fact that it requires players to have earned a specific collection of other mounts first. The key to the Kirin mount is the "A Legend for a Legend" side quest, but to obtain that side quest you'll first need to jump through a few hoops.

How to Get the Kirin Mount in Final Fantasy XIV

In order to be given the "A Legend for a Legend" side quest, players will need to obtain all six Nightmare mounts. These are: Aithon, Xanthos, Gullfaxi, Enbarr, Markab, and Boreas. These mounts can be earned through completing Extreme versions of the primal trials from A Realm Reborn.

Thankfully, since this content is now a little bit older and with the level cap having been raised, players should be able to complete these trials a little easier. Here are all of the trials, and their mounts, that you'll need to complete and earn:

• The Bowl of Embers (Extreme) - Aithon Unlock Quest: " Ifrit Ain't Broke" from Urianger in The Waking Sands
• The Navel (Extreme) -GullfaxiUnlock Quest: "Quake Me Up Before You O'Ghomoro" from Urianger in The Waking Sands
• Lord of the Whorl (Extreme) -EnbarrUnlock Quest: "Whorl of a Time" from Urianger in The Waking Sands
• Akh Afah Amphitheatre (Extreme) -Boreas Unlock Quest: "Drop Dead Shiva" from Urianger in The Waking Sands
• The Howling Eye (Extreme) - Xanthos Unlock Quest: "Gale-force Warning" from Vorsaile Heuloix in New Gridania
• The Striking Tree (Extreme) - Markab Unlock Quest: "Judgment Bolts and Lightning" from Scarlet in New Gridania

After obtaining all six Nightmare mounts, players will be able to start the "A Legend for a Legend" side quest given by the Wandering Minstrel in Mor Dhona.

You'll be given the Magicked Dizi item and asked to head to a designated location in Mor Dhona. Go to the location to witness a cutscene where you'll be given a Kirin Fife item to summon the Kirin mount. Players will also earn the the "Ichiban" achievement.
