By Ayrton Lauw
As Mass Effect Legendary Edition has just released, many are wanting to restart their playthrough yet again, especially with their favorite love interest, Kaidan Alenko.
The space soap opera known for its story-rich gameplay has the option to give players a romantic love interest in the games only to add to its immersion. Although his lines are interesting, and his cooking has a lot to be desired, here's how to romance with Kaidan in Mass Effect.
How to Romance Kaiden Alenko in Mass Effect Legendary Edition
The method to pursue romantic relations with Kaidan is similar to that of pursuing one with Ashley Williams, except that you are a female in hopes of being in a relationship with a male character, rather than the other way around.
In order to have your romance with Kaidan Alenko, Shepard will have to be a female character. As with the relationship with Ashley, you will need to frequently converse with Kaidan on the Normandy which will start early on right after the prologue of the story. As with most love interests in the games, it's best to select Paragon or neutral dialogue options as those will just ensure the relationship with Kaidan.
When going through the story, you will encounter Liara T'Soni after rescuing her on Therum. If players do have an interest in Liara, you will have to choose between the two later on. In order to pursue further relations with Kaidan, remain loyal to him and break it off with Liara to remain as professional colleagues only.
Again, your loyalty to Kaidan will be tested again as the assault mission on Virmire will have you choose between Kaidan and Ashley. Being the loyal Shepard that you are, choose Kaidan and leave Ashley in the dust. The perk to choosing Kaidan is that he complements Shepard with his skills in a standard playthrough, and it adds to the already interesting love story. Ashley was just a means to an end.
When reaching the final mission of the story, Kaidan will later go to Shepard's quarters to share an intimate moment together as they travel to Ilos, which will end the romance story for the first Mass Effect.
You'll have to wait after the first game as you'll be able to rekindle your fling with Kaidan in Mass Effect 3, as in the second game, Kaidan will refuse to join Shepard and will always fight her instead. However, so long as Shepard remains loyal in the second game, or breaks up with her love interest, they can be reunited in the prologue of the third game and pick up where they left off.
