Lugia Raid Hour: Can You Catch a Shiny Lugia?

Lugia was recently featured during a special bonus raid hour, sparking the question of whether or not trainers would be able to catch its shiny variant.
Niantic Labs has chosen Lugia as the featured Pokemon for a series of bonus legendary Raids this season in Pokemon GO. Veteran fans will likely recognize this Pokemon from the movie based around it—Pokemon The Movie 2000 (1999). Of course, with such notoriety, trainers are eager to take this Pokemon in as part of their team.

Can You Catch a Shiny Lugia?
Yes, you can catch a shiny Lugia during Raid Hour.
While this Pokemon originally debuted on July 22, 2017, shiny Lugia was released on March 16, 2018. It's exceptionally easy to pick out this Pokemon's shiny form from its normal colors as its shiny palette is sharply tinted pink. Its belly is bright pink with its dorsal spines and mask sporting a darker magenta. Some trainers even say its pale body scales take on a warmer hue, as well.
Lugia is a Johto region native and one half of the Tower Duo—alongside Ho-Oh. Despite making its home in the ocean, it is a psychic and flying-type. It has the following stats:

Lugia is commonly known by its colloquial title, the "Guardian of the Sea." It is known for the extreme power of its wings. Just a simple flutter can rip the roofs off homes and completely uproot trees. Its PokeDex number is 249.
