Madden 21 gameplay looks like it'll bring a host of new features to the gridiron.

As Madden 21 is presumed to be the last iteration of the franchise for the current console generation, players should assume gameplay won't be taking any sort of dramatic leap. EA Sports announced a number of new gameplay features, but, aside from those, the game will probably feel similar to Madden 20. A next-gen version of Madden 21 is set to release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X at the end of the year.

See below for a deep dive into Madden 21's current-gen gameplay.

Madden 21 Gameplay: What to Expect

The Madden 21 gameplay deep dive video reveals new gameplay features coming to this year's iteration:

New Pass Rush Control

In Madden 21, all pass rush moves are on the right stick and triggers. An on screen indicator will give players more detailed feedback on the success of their moves to get position on the line and the amount of moves remaining.

Ball Carrier Skill Stick

The skill stick has been improved, and all user moves can be linked together using the right stick. Madden 21 is introducing two new ball carrier moves: the side hurdle, or jurdle, and the dead leg. Certain animations are limited to specific archetypes so that only the best ball carriers can break ankles on the field.

Realistic Open Field Tackling

Open field tackling often looks a little messy, and EA Sports is promising to clean this up in Madden 21. Defenders will now realistically break down and prepare for impact, rather than the "guided missile" tackling of years past. Defenders can time their breakdowns to improve their chances of completing the tackle.

Authenticity Improvements

Madden 21 is also promising to improve the authenticity of the on-field product, making for a more realistic experience overall. This means players will have more realistic animations for everything that happens between plays, including additional awareness of other AI. They have also added more animations between downs, like extensive celebrations.

Celebrate Everywhere

While you could only celebrate after touchdowns in previous Maddens, Madden 21 will give players more chances to celebrate. After big plays like first downs, sacks, and interceptions, players will be able to celebrate.
