MLB The Show June 24 Roster Update: 5 Gold Predictions
When MLB The Show Players think about roster updates, they typically think about the gold players who should go diamond. Well, we're here to talk about the silver players who have played well enough that their overall should improve from a silver to a gold.
MLB The Show June 24 Roster Update: 5 Gold Predictions
1: Dansby Swanson - SS / Atlanta Braves
After a rough start to his season, Dansby Swanson has turned it around over the last two weeks. Swanson has hit his way to a .295 batting average, after starting the year well below the Mendoza Line (under .200). Since the last roster update, Swanson has been hitting .333 with 15 hits, six of which have been for extra bases. Swanson has also driven in nine runs during that time. It wouldn't be surprising to see Swanson end up either a high gold or a low diamond by the end of the season. But for now, Swanson should make the jump from a silver 77 to a gold.
2: Bryan Reynolds - OF / Pittsburgh Pirates
Just like Swanson, Bryan Reynolds started the year off very slow. But he has also turned it around, especially since the last roster update. Since June 10, Reynolds has hit .390 with six extra-base hits and eight walks. To top his already impressive batting average at the time, Reynolds also has a .426 OBP. Last year Reynolds was a diamond and it wouldn't be surprising to see him there again at some point this year. But until then, Reynolds should see an upgrade from silver to gold.
3: Ryan Mountcastle - 1B / Baltimore Orioles
The young first basemen for the Orioles has been a consistent hitter all year. But he has really turned it on over the last two weeks. Since the last roster update, Mountcastle has been hitting .362 with ten RBIs. He has recorded 17 hits and nine of those have been for extra bases, four home runs and five doubles. Mountcastle's recent burst of tremendous play has definitely earned him a spot as a gold for tomorrow's roster update.
4: Tony Gonsolin - SP / Los Angeles Dodgers
A surprising stud for the Dodgers this year, Tony Gonsolin has been perfect. We say perfect because Gonsolin is 9-0 on the season and has a 1.58 ERA, both are good for number one in the entire league. Since the last roster update, Gonsolin has made two starts. Combined Gonsolin threw 11.1 innings and struck out ten batters. In one outing, he did not let up a single run, and in the other, he only let up two runs. Gonsolin has been on fire this year, and if he keeps it up, he will definitely be a diamond. But that won't happen in this update, for now, Gonsolin should make the jump from silver to gold.
5: Devin Williams - RP / Milwaukee Brewers
The owner of one of the nastiest changeups in the entire league, Devin Williams, is our last prediction to go gold. Williams has made five shutout appearances since the last roster update. In those five appearances, Williams only allowed one hit and one walk while striking out six. Williams recorded his fifth save of the year and his 14th, 15th and 16th hold of the season. Williams does a great job of holding the game in the eighth inning before Josh Hader comes in and closes the game out. Williams should see at least a one overall boost from silver to gold by tomorrow.
