Orisa Could Get a New Kit in Overwatch 2
By Jack O'Dwyer
Some Overwatch fans have discovered a new ability that could potentially make its way into Orisa's kit in Overwatch 2.
Could Blizzard be interested in changing its characters' roles in its popular first-person shooter (FPS) sequel, Overwatch 2? According to a recent Reddit post, some fans say: yes. A re-examining of the Overwatch animated short, "Honor and Glory," featuring a young Reinhardt, shows off an Orisa-like omnic unit wielding a red-hot burning blade as a deadly weapon. As Orisa, herself, has yet to showcase such an ability, fans are wondering if they'll see her gain access to it in Overwatch 2.
Overwatch Fans Discover New Orisa Ability?
The chances of kit changes between Overwatch and Overwatch 2 isn't entirely unlikely. As the game continues to undergo development, the team could always decide to shift some roles around to make future metas more interesting. However, it's unlikely Orisa would be one of them.
Reddit user empathybox posted screencaps of the unit—what some believe to be an OR-15—wielding the blade on the official Overwatch subreddit board on Thursday, May 27.
"'Orisa isn't built to be a brawler'," they wrote, quoting a previous developer's statement, "Orisas know what is owed to them in OW2."
Fans were quick to join the speculation of the new ability. Some were thrilled to see a possible expansion of Orisa's kit in the future. New voice lines, possible cosmetics, and specifics of the so-dubbed "death blade" were discussed. Others, however, disputed the chances the omnic's kit would change and countered items about how the blade would work.
"I approve, Orisa needs a close range option. her guns just feels so useless at close range. it might be just a rework on halt to make it more consistent though. the blade is a bit clashing to Orisa's lore as a peace keeping omnic." Qverlord wrote, "a robot cop with a 9k degree sword is probably not what Efi wanted to build."
"Well. She literally has a gun arm. How would a sword be more counter-intuitive than a machine gun," CuriousPumpkino argued.
4morian5 pointed out a lore detail that appeared to be forgotten in the mix, "This is an or-14 from the omnic crisis. Orisa is built off the or-15, which had the barrier in place of the blade."
Bigmoneynuts agreed, joking, "or-15 did not study the blade."
Ultimately, the final word will come from Blizzard. The idea is interesting, however, and definitely gives longtime players something to think about when Overwatch 2 is unveiled in full.
