Overwatch 2 Season 3 Release Date: When is it?
A new year ushers in a fresh batch of Overwatch 2 content. Season 2 of the game is still underway, but the first major update of 2023, beginning Season 3, will bring awaited changes to the game. These include, potentially, new heroes, maps and balance changes. Here's what we know about Overwatch 2 Season 3's release date.
Overwatch 2 Season 2 began on Dec. 6, bringing with it a host of changes to the game and new content. Players were able to earn seasonal skins during the Winter Wonderland event, and on Jan. 5, the Battle for Olympus event began, offering Greek mythology-themed skins and a limited-time deathmatch mode that changes up how some heroes play and imbues them with powerful legendary abilities.
Perhaps the most anticipated content additions that arrive with new competitive seasons are new heroes and maps, which drastically change the gameplay landscape. Season 2 brought Ramattra, a new tank hero, as well as the Shambali Monastary Escort map.
Overwatch 2 Season 3 Release Date
No release date for Overwatch 2 Season 3 has been officially announced, but based on previous release patterns, Season 3 is likely to come out Tuesday, Feb. 7. Because Season 2 came out in the first week of December and Overwatch seasons usually last around nine weeks, the next season should be ready to arrive in early February.
As far as what content can be expected to release along with the new season in February, Blizzard Commercial Lead John Spector has stated the team plans on adding a "more solid support" hero in early 2023 as part of a shift in focus by the development team toward bolstering the role. Other than that exciting hint, however, details about the event are scarce.
Recent changes from the Jan. 5 update included balance updates to several heroes and the addition of the Battle for Olympus event, along with the usual host of bug fixes. Similar content can likely be anticipated with the release of Season 3, though we will provide additional information as it becomes available.
