In the run up to the Overwatch League Grand Finals, DBLTAP asked pros from across the competing teams about the state of the game, their own journeys to professional Overwatch, and more.
Overwatch League Pros Answer: Who is the Best Player in the OWL?
Who is the best Overwatch League player, and what makes them the best?
Grant "moth" Espe, San Francisco Shock: Fleta is the best player in OWL right now, he is MVP.
Sean Taiyo "ta1yo" Henderson, San Francisco Shock: Viol2t. I think his understanding of the game is unparalleled and his willingness to grind is unmatched as well.
Minki "Viol2t" Park, San Francisco Shock: Me. It's very important to have confidence as a professional gamer.
Jooseok "Twilight" Lee, San Francisco Shock: Striker. He is the best Tracer in the world.
Dong-eon "FITS" Kim, Seoul Dynasty: In my view the best player is Profit. His plays are mostly clever and he is one of the best players I have seen so far.
Hyeon-woo "Toyou" Lim, Seoul Dynasty: I think Fury is the best. I think of his personality, skills and his earnestness highly. I referenced a lot of Fury's plays while preparing to be a professional player myself. Fury still maintains one of the best class plays.
Seung-tae "Bdosin" Choi, Seoul Dynasty: I would go for myself.
Gael "Poko" Gouzerch, Philadelphia Fusion: I think Overwatch is too team-oriented to say one player is the best right now. I'd rather base my answer on who's been at the top for years and who’s consistently a top performer. The first name that comes to my mind is Carpe.
Daniel "FunnyAstro" Hathaway, Philadelphia Fusion: I think Alarm is the best player in the game. Not only is he super flexible with his vast hero pool, but he has the rare combination of great mentality and incredible mechanics.
Jae-gon "LeeJaeGon" Lee, Shanghai Dragons: I think the best player in OWL right now is Lip, and I say so not because he is my teammate [but because of his] explosive power and physical performance in-match.
Byung-sun "Fleta" Kim, Shanghai Dragons: It’s hard for me to choose a best player, as they all have made to Grand Finals; I think it’s more about teamwork than a certain player’s performance, as great teamwork is the guarantee of a stage where a player can show his/her ability. To sum up, I think the best player should be the one who can not only coordinate with team members, but also display strong performance.
