Pokemon GO Kanto Farfetch'd vs. Sirfetch’d: Which is Better?
By Eder Ramirez
Farfetch’d and Sirfetch’d are Pokemon that are confusing to the average player, with things growing especially cloudy when Kantonian Farfetch’d is introduced into the picture. The two Pokemon stand on opposite sides of the spectrum, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. In this comparison, these two birds will be judged by their stats, overall viability, and other factors to see which Pokemon stands above the other.
This comparison will be focused on the original, Kantonian variant of Farfetch’d, not the Galarian form.
Difficulty to Obtain
While being region-specific to Eastern Asia, Farfetch’d can be caught in the wild. In fact, this leek-wielding bird can also be found in eggs from that area. In the past, it could also be found as a raid boss, though not currently.
Meanwhile, Sirfetch’d can only be obtained through evolution. Trainers must evolve a Galarian Farfetch’d with 50 candies, as well as making 10 “Excellent” throws with it as a buddy Pokemon. So on top of it being an uncapturable Pokemon, it’s going to take a bit of effort to obtain, leaving the Kanto original the victor of this factor.

Typing
Farfetch’d is a Flying/Normal-type, while Sirfetch’d is a pure Fighting-type. In this case, the Trainer can make a decision due to circumstances varying between every player. Both of these Pokemon have their own strengths and weaknesses when it comes to what they can hurt and who they get hurt by.
Farfetch’d can withstand Bug, Grass, Ground, and Ghost-types, while Sirfetch’d can resist Rock, Bug, and Dark-types. On the other hand, keep Farfetch’d away from Rock, Electric, and Ice-types, while also keeping Sirfetch’d away from Rock, Bug, and Dark-types.
When looking at what they can resist and exploit, Sirfetch’d barely wins due to the fact that they have a higher potential of encountering a Pokemon that they can do massive damage to.
Stats
The following are the base stats for Farfetch’d and Sirfetch’d:
- Attack - Farfetch’d has 124 while Sirfetch’d has 248
- Defense - Farfetch’d has 115 while Sirfetch’d has 176
- Stamina - Farfetch’d has 141 while Sirfetch’d has 158
Sirfetch’d absolutely obliterates the opposition in this factor by overwhelming amounts in each category. Given that it is a final stage evolution, the avian knight is just better suited for battle than it's primitive predecessor.
Verdict
While many may be sad to let this Kantonian classic go, Sirfetch’d is clearly the better choice for trainers. Granted, it cannot fly and isn’t exactly the easiest Pokemon to come across, but it’s a powerhouse that can do anything Farfetch’d can do, but better.
Sirfetch’d is now available in Pokemon GO, alongside both variants of Farfetch’d.
