Pokemon GO Search Commands

Pokemon GO search commands can prove useful when your collection gets a little too big to sift through manually. Recently, the game's storage limit was increased, so you can hold even more Pokemon than ever before. With that many Pokemon, you'll have to know your way around the search bar to find what you're looking for.

Pokemon GO Search Commands

The search feature in Pokemon GO is surprisingly robust, with commands that can help you find Pokemon of specific parameters quickly and easily if you know what to do. Here's a list of search commands in Pokemon GO.

Search by Name

Searching by name is the normal text search. It'll return all Pokemon with that name. However if you search by the species name, it'll return all Pokemon of that species ignoring nicknames.

Jeff will get all Pokemon you've named Jeff
Haunter will get all Haunters you own

Search by Pokedex Number

You can also look for Pokemon by their National Pokedex number.

93 will get all Haunters you own

Search by Type

You can look for Pokemon of a specific type. You can either look for multiple types or just Pokemon of a specific type combination.

ghost will get all Ghost type Pokemon
ghost, ice will get all Ghost and Ice type Pokemon
ghost & poison will get all Pokemon that are both Ghost and Poison type

Search by Moves

You can also search for Pokemon with specific moves. Just put "@" before the move. This works for both specific names of moves as well as types of moves.

@ice beam will get all Pokemon that know Ice Beam
@ice will get all Pokemon with an Ice type move.

Search by Evolution Line

If you put "+" before a Pokemon species name, you can find all Pokemon of that species and all Pokemon that evolve from that species.

+Gastly will get all Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar you own

Search by CP or HP

You can find Pokemon of a certain CP or HP stat. You just write either "cp" or "hp" and the value or the range.

cp100 will get all Pokemon with a CP of 100
cp1000-1500 will get all Pokemon with CP in the range of 1000 to 1500
hp100-150 will get all Pokemon with HP in the range of 100 to 150

Search by Evolve

You can search for Pokemon you own that can evolve. This takes into consideration any items or candy you have, so it will only show Pokemon that you could evolve immediately.

evolve gets all Pokemon that can Evolve right now
item gets all Pokemon that need an Item to Evolve

Multiple Search Terms

You can also use a colon, semicolon, or comma to do multiple search terms at once.

Jeff, gastly will get you all of your Pokemon named Jeff as well as all of your Gastly

Include and Exclude

You can use "&" to search for Pokemon that meet both parameters, and "!" to exclude Pokemon with that parameter.

Jeff & gastly will get all of your Gastly that are named Jeff
Jeff !gastly will get all of your Pokemon named Jeff but will exclude any Gastly

These search commands should help you find Pokemon in a massive collection. The search query can be as long as you want, so you can get really specific if you use the search commands together.
