Pokemon GO Tour Returns Featuring Generation 2: The Johto Region
By Jack O'Dwyer
Niantic Labs has announced that the Pokemon GO Tour event will return to the game and feature the Johto region.
The announcement was made through the verified Pokemon GO Twitter account on Tuesday, Dec. 7. As expected, since the last Pokemon GO Tour focused on the first generation in the Kanto region, this second Tour will put the spotlight on the second generation in the Johto region. This time, like Kanto, trainers will be able to choose between two versions of the same experience that correspond to different versions of the original games.
Here's everything you need to know to get ready for Johto.
Everything You Need to Know About Pokemon GO Tour: Johto
The Johto Tour will take place on Feb. 26, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., local time. An extra in-person event will also be available the following day, Feb. 27, in specific locations that have yet to be revealed.
Trainers will be asked to choose between Gold and Silver versions of the event—akin to the two original versions of the game released in 1999. However, regardless of selection, trainers will still have access to assorted activities and benefits, such as:
- All Johto Pokemon taking over the wild and Raids with a chance to be shiny.
- An encounter with a Celebi that knows a "special move."
- Access to a special Masterwork Research story meant to test a trainer's skills.
- Access to nine collection challenges.
- A free Remote-Raid Pass Bundle in the Shop.
- 1/4 Egg Hatching Distance.
- 2x Hatching Candy.
- Up to nine free Raid passes by spinning Gym discs.
- An exclusive in-game medal.
Pokemon GO Tour: Johto Ticket Information
Tickets are available now in the Pokemon GO app and cost $11.99. Those who get one by specific dates will gain access to unique research storylines for January and February—purchasing by Jan. 10 and Feb. 10, 2022, respectively.
To purchase a ticket:
- Open the Pokemon GO app on your mobile device.
- Tap the bottom center PokeBall button to bring up the main menu.
- From the main menu, select "Shop."
- Scroll down in the Shop menu to "Global Events." There should be a listing for "Ticket: Pokemon GO Tour: Johto."
- Tap the aforementioned listing to prompt the purchasing screen.
- Tap "Buy" to purchase a ticket.
Afterwards, trainers will be asked to choose between Gold and Silver versions of the event. We've explained the differences below.
Pokemon GO Tour: Johto Gold vs. Silver
Both experiences cost the same amount, so there's no need to worry about paying extra to find your favorite Pokemon from the Johto region. In fact, the only major difference—aside from a few version exclusives, as usual—is the chance of encountering specific shiny Pokemon. Depending on the version they choose, trainers will have a higher chance of encountering the shiny versions of select Pokemon.
Version exclusive Pokemon will only be attracted to Incense, so the feature shouldn't noticeably impact overall gameplay unless the trainer pops one.
Regardless of version, trainers have an increased chance to encounter shiny variants of all Generation II starters: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile.
