The PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS Sound Team just announced long-awaited changes to footstep sounds after a disappointing fix last summer.

It looks like players are in for a big update on July 22. Not only will Season 8 begin with Patch 8.1a, but it will also include these new footstep sound changes. After much fan and player feedback, PUBG Corp acknowledged their own failure at their previous attempt to fix the issue last year. This year, it looks like they finally got it right and the update may have solved the sounds of footsteps.

PUBG Sound Team Announces Changes to Footstep Sounds

PUBG Corp states three main areas of footstep sounds they wanted to tackle that has seen the PUBG community become unhappy with the game. The first issue dealt with the sound on different soil or ground types, whereas the second issue was the sound of footsteps over distances. The remaining issue was the significant difference in footstep sound between barefoot and player's wearing shoes.

The new update will feature sound being more enhanced and defined on all surfaces, making it more realistic. In addition, the sounds created by each footstep will also be more consistent on the same surface.

With footsteps over distances, PUBG Corp has altered the volume and sound of footsteps depending on a set distance and material a player is on. Mainly, mid-range to long-range footsteps should be much easier to hear than in last year.

Lastly, PUBG players can rejoice about not having to choose what shoe to wear. Players love PUBG for its realism but this time, PUBG Corp has announced that it is going to alter reality. Barefoot players who use to have quieter footsteps will now have the same footstep sounds and volume as those with shoes. PUBG Corp stated that this was a rare case of needing to alter reality in an effort to make the game fair.

PUBG Corp and Sound Team are hard at work with more issues being looked at. More information is to come from those but PUBG Corp are hoping that players will be satisfied with the new changes to come in PUBG Patch 8.1.
