Top 5 Shadowlands 9.1 Mythic+ Ranged DPS
At 11 total specializations, Ranged DPS is the second most abundant role in the game. This makes choosing our top five difficult. We already gave our DPS rankings, here are our ranged rankings.
#1 - Elemental Shaman
Elemental Shaman’s biggest strength comes from its spiky, on-demand AoE burst made possible by its Earthquake ability. At this moment in time, they are one of, if not the highest AoE damage dealer in the game while also having solid single-target DPS. They also have their own fair share of off-heal utility with their Healing Surges and Ancestral guidance. All of this makes them the premiere damage dealing class in Mythic+. One can’t also forget their ability to Hex, allowing to skip or make packs easier and the utility they bring in the form of Tremor and Capacitor Totems, their Earth Elemental for spontaneous off the cuff tanking and Cleanse Spirit to remove curses. Also, they have Bloodlust, the most useful cooldown in the game.
#2 - Frost Mage
Similar to Elemental Shaman, as mages they bring a “lust-type” effect, making them already a huge plus to any group. They also have perfect damage when it comes to cleave and by their virtue of every one of their abilities giving chilling and slow effects, they are prime a prime specialization for tanks to kite. Like Shaman’s Hex, as Mages bring Polymorph. They are tanky, have immunity in the form of Ice Block and provide the group with a party-wide buff, Arcane Intellect. Mages also are the only class that can take enemy magic buffs and make it their own with Spellsteal.
#3 - Arcane Mage
Arcane climbed up the ranks thanks to various changes to its class and the Kyrian covenant. They still have everything that the Mage class has to offer: Ice Block, Arcane Intellect, a lust-effect in Time Warp, Polymorph, Spellsteal and many more. Like Fire, Arcane has uncapped AoE, making the specialization seem stronger than the rest. It doesn’t quite have the same slow or CC as Frost Mage but its damage output is certainly a good bring to Mythic+ groups.
#4 - Balance Druid
As top contenders for group-wide utility with Ursol’s Vortex, Typhoon, Soothe and Stampeding Roar, Innervate and the only specialization/class with a combat ress, they are terrific for any group. They are also a great support specialization, either with the off-healing they provide or their Force of Nature talent, allowing to help tanks out. Balance Druids also have great spread out AoE damage, something that not many specializations can provide. And to top it all off, they are tanky with their Barskin and Bear Form abilities.
#5 - Shadow Priest
Shadow Priest can multi dot targets while also have on-demand AoE damage. They bring a much-needed Power: Fortitude buff, making them and the rest of their party tanky and have all sorts of utility in the form Dispel Magic, Mass Dispel and Purify - Mass Dispel can come in clutch for the Bursting affix. Shadow Priest also have some of the best single-target damage in the game, great for any Tyrannical week.
