The Call of Duty universe has had a pretty insane stretch of news related to it less than three months into 2022.

From Microsoft striking a deal to acquire Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion, to Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson reportedly being in talks to make a Call of Duty movie, a Modern Warfare 2 reboot and a Warzone sequel being confirmed, and the series planning to skip an annual release for the first time since 2004, there's simply been a nauseating amount of headlines to stomach for COD fans so far this year.

Additionally, Activision just announced yesterday that they're making a version of Call of Duty: Warzone for mobile. As such, now would probably be as great of a time as ever to break down, reflect and chronicle some of the all-time best seasons from the iconic first-person shooter series.

The Five Best Call of Duty: Warzone Seasons Ever

5. Season 1 (BOCW)

Just from a sheer content perspective alone, we got Black Ops Cold War weapon integration for the first time, the debut of Rebirth Island and the MAC-10. Additionally, however, we also saw perhaps the most unbalanced weapon meta off all-time in Warzone history, with the rise to glory of the DMR 14 tactical rifle.

4. Season 5 (MW)

Kicking off the list is Season 5 of the Modern Warfare Warzone era. A time that first saw Verdansk's Stadium and the station buildings of Train Station open up, the freight train begin to take its course and Exterior Ascenders (aka vertical ziplines) pop up around the map. Additionally, this season included the reveal event for Black Ops Cold War, Know Your History, which added a playlist to Warzone that invited players on a 15-minute objective-driven journey filled with theatrics that culminated with the Treyarch title's reveal trailer at the end. An overall solid season with no terribly broken guns.

3. Season 3 (MW)

This season was definitely a vibe. It was really the first season in which Activision and co. realized that Warzone content was as, if not more important to the mainline Call of Duty content, putting the battle royale branding alongside Modern Warfare's. Season 3 saw the introduction of BR Quads and had an overall balanced meta outside of the .357 Akimbo Snakeshots.

2. Season 6 (MW)

The final season of the OG Modern Warfare Warzone era saw Raven Software and co. send the 2019 Infinity Ward title off with a bang. Although Season 6 did also introduce the SP-R 208, AS VAL and the opening of Verdansk's subway fast travel system, what truly stands out was the Haunting of Verdansk event. Going all out with a revamped variant of Verdansk at night, special rewards, limited-time modes and cosmetic bundles, including collaborations with the SAW and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre film franchises, this event perhaps set the standard for new content in seasonal events.

1. Season 3 (BOCW)

It's hard not to think of Warzone Season 3 in the Black Ops Cold War era as one of, if not the best in its history. The top weapon in the meta at the time was the CR-56 AMAX, a handful of POIs were reworked (e.g. Summit) with the Verdansk '84 overhaul, and the Swiss K31 was introduced, giving the Kar98k a true competitor. The '80s Action Heroes event was the headliner of the Season 3 Reloaded midseason update. It introduced two new Operators — John Rambo and John McClane — a Power Grab mode, added and modified several POIs (e.g. Nakatomi Plaza), and included a set of nine challenges that gave players the Epic "Ignition" Pelington 703 Weapon Blueprint as a final reward.
