Valorant Tips: 5 Ways to Improve Your Game Quickly
By Nathan Fusco
Valorant has taken the gaming world by storm. Since April 7, players have been able to participate in the closed beta or watch streamers play as they anxiously wait for their own drop. If you did receive a drop and a key, but have never played Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, it's probably been a rough experience.
While comparisons of a Overwatch and CS:GO mashup are correct, it's heavily leaning toward Counter-Strike. Between the pace, weapon spray and recoil, the game is a much slower pace than many shooters. So here are a few tips from someone who has access to the closed beta.
5. Slow It Down
Valorant is about knowledge. You need to know where your opponents are and what bombsite they may be pushing or covering. While many think it's a game about winning gunfights, and that's true, the game is about numbers. You theoretically want to attack with a numbers advantage. So try to walk to places to hide your location and to surprise your enemies.
4. Speed It Up
When taking a bombsite, commitment and speed are key. Once you feel like you have a plan of attack, go for it. No sneaking onto site unless the plan is to try a slow bomb plant. But if you walk too much, you give the opponents time to rotate once the fighting starts.
3. Don't Burn Your Abilities Too Fast
It can be difficult to hold on your abilities when everyone around you is using theirs including your opponents. Depending on your elo, players may always be pushing fast, so you may have to use it. But if you have any type of competent opponents, save some of your abilities for late-game situations or retakes.
2. Keep the Crosshair Head Level
This will take time and practice, but you need to make this change immediately. There should be no wasted movement of the mouse or crosshair. Every turn or corner push should be at head level. There's a possibility of an enemy at every angle, and the more practiced you are, the better luck you'll have at winning those fights.
1. Learn to Save
You are going to have eco rounds, or rounds with little to no money. Stop buying a Ghost or Sheriff every round, and learn to save some money. Buy Half Shields, and play passive. Saving for a gun round is important if you want to get back on your feet after a few lost rounds. If you continue to buy, you'll streak together multiple half buys, and dig yourself further into a hole.
