VCT Pros Explain What the Most OP Ultimate Ability is in Valorant
Valorant is a game where Ultimate Abilities tremendously impact the course of maps.
From the classic Sage Resurrection to the lockdown Viper's Pit, Ultimate Abilities are the greatest aces that players can hold up their sleeves.
Now that Valorant has reached its two-year mark, as well as an Agent pool of 19-deep, the game has truly become a contest between which teams can capitalize off of their utility the best.
DBLTAP spoke with several of the game's best players from FaZe Clan, 100 Thieves and Ghost Gaming during the VCT Stage 2: Challengers NA Playoffs to get their thoughts on a simple question: What is the most overpowered Ultimate Ability in Valorant? Here's what we found.
Ultimately, the consensus appears to be clear — Chamber's Tour De Force is much too powerful at the moment.
"The most OP ult in Valorant right now is probably Chamber Op," FaZe Andrej "babybay" Francisty said.
"The Chamber ult. I mean, you just saw the game that we played," 100T Peter "Asuna" Mazuryk told DBLTAP after facing FaZe in the Upper Quarterfinals. "In context, we just played babybay and dicey. They just farmed us with Chamber and yeah, that Ultimate is broken and it should be nerfed A$AP Rocky."
"The Chamber ult is one of the most overpowered abilities in this game at the moment," Ghost Alex "aproto" Protopapas said. "This guy shoots you, he can shoot again immediately. If he hits someone and kills him, they're slowed so his teammates are stuck if they were like close behind and they can't go forward, they have to go backwards or they're stuck in the slow and he can just shoot them again. Just paired with his kit, I think it makes his ult the strongest ult in the game right now.”
As discussed in our Patch 5.0 Agent Tier List, the French pseudo-Duelist is dominating the current meta thanks to his questionably balanced kit, something 100T Derrek Ha specifically addressed with his seemingly perma-available Rendezvous teleport.
"Right now, the Chamber Op by far," Derrek said. "Also the Agent itself, like being able to TP. He can TP like five times in one round if the round goes out long enough, so I think that Agent is just busted."
Lastly, honest Chamber enthusiast FaZe Quan "dicey" Tran was the lone player out of the bunch who argued that there is no OP Ultimate in Valorant at the moment, emphasizing that using such an ability requires players to use it correctly.
"I think it's situational," dicey said. "I think [what's] overall good is probably a KAY/O ult. You can always deny the retake utility, you can always take post-plant sites with it and you just exec with it easily. I think Viper ult’s pretty good if you play around it correctly. I think [for] just straight-up fighting power and like just solo-carry the round, probably Chamber ult. Breach ult’s pretty good too if you have good strats around it. For a majority, most ults are pretty good. It just depends on the situation and how you use it."
