Pokémon GO has just announced a new feature to the game called Powered-Up PokéStops. Here is everything we know about the new Powered-Up PokéStops that will be added to the game soon.

What Are Powered-Up PokéStops in Pokémon GO?

Niantic has been working on a way for players to be able to engage with the AR Mapping tasks that were released in Pokémon GO last year. Powered-Up PokéStops are real-world PokéStops where players can use their smart device to scan the location using their camera.

Powered-Up PokéStops will look different than normal ones. Players who spin one will receive extra rewards. By completing AR Mapping tasks, players can also level up in this category and receive even more rewards at the Powered-Up PokéStops.

Along with more rewards, by continuing to complete AR Mapping tasks, players can power up certain gyms and PokéStops for a limited time.

It is important to note that only trainers who are level 20 and above can complete these AR Mapping tasks. There will also be three distinct AR Mapping task levels. The scanning requirements in order to level up are as follows:

  • Level 1: Five Scans
  • Level 2: 10 Scans
  • Level 3: 25 Scans

How to Scan Powered-Up PokéStops in Pokémon GO

In order to scan the Powered-Up PokéStops, go to the details page of the Pokémon GO app, in the right-hand corner, and click on the three dots. You will then come across details on AR Scanning if you have not used the feature yet.

Tap the record button and walk around the location/object as best as you can. Players can then upload the scan which will be reviewed by Niantic. To learn more specifics and requirements on how to scan PokéStops, you can read about it here.
