Where to Find Darkrai in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
By Jack O'Dwyer
Trainers want to know where they can find Darkrai, the "Pitch-Black" Pokemon, in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Darkrai is one of the members of the Lunar Duo alongside Cresselia. The two are polar opposites of each other with Cresselia meant to promote good dreams and Darkrai being associated with nightmares. According to its lore, this Pokemon is both able to create nightmares—often as an act of self-defense—and is attracted to their presence. Since the two are opposites, Darkrai and Cresselia often have a complicated relationship as both cooperative and conflicting as they are two sides of the same coin. Its PokeDex number is #491.
Where to Find Darkrai in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl
Unfortunately, Darkrai is currently unavailable in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl as the item needed to obtain it requires either a Mystery Gift or special event. This follows the original Sinnoh-region remakes which means, once unlocked, the method to obtain it won't be too different than before.
In the event the item is released, this article will be updated accordingly. Until then, we've explained how to get Darkrai below based on the events in the initial Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.
Players will first need to have already beat the Sinnoh League and its Champion, Cynthia as well as obtain the National PokeDex by seeing all Pokemon available in the region. Next, they'll need to have completed the Cresselia event—though catching it may not be strictly necessary.
Next, they'll have to get their hands on the Member Card through an event, Mystery Gift, or otherwise. The Member Card will allow access into a specific house in Canalave City to the north of its entrance. There will be an NPC asleep in bed who, when spoken too, will prompt the player to take a trip to Newmoon Island. This is where Darkrai resides.
Trainers will eventually run into Darkrai after a brief moment exploring the island. Speaking with it will start its encounter and battle. It is a pure dark-type, so fighting and bug-types are the best bet to whittle down its HP in order to catch it.
Good luck, trainers!
