Will GTA 6 be on the Xbox One?
By Jack O'Dwyer
Will GTA 6 be on Xbox One is something fans are wondering as the gaming community heads toward a new console generation.
Grand Theft Auto VI is a long-awaited addition to Rockstar Games' popular sandbox franchise. Mega-fans of the series have been clamoring about its release since they finished the content in GTA V. Players have been wondering about new characters, new weapons, new stories and more. However, the largest question is the one that will impact their wallets. Will GTA VI still be compatible with the Xbox One while following the timeline Rockstar seems to have set up?
Here's what we know.
Will Grand Theft Auto 6 be on the Xbox One?
It can be assumed that, with the latest release of Red Dead Redemption 2 in the last few years, Rockstar might not have been putting its all behind another GTA title. This doesn't mean they stopped production entirely, but it does imply that there could have been a smaller team behind the GTA development while the main engines were focused on RDR2.
Now that RDR2 seems to be on solid footing in its own right, it only follows that the attention would shift onto the next biggest title: GTA VI. Developing a game that is worthy of carrying such a popular mantle takes time though.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2021, according to a tweet from the official PlayStation account on Dec. 23, 2019. This date misses both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox X console launches. Both are projected to ready for purchase later this year.
Unfortunately for players, this means that the chances of it being compatible with the Xbox One are severely low. One hope that One-owners may have is the fact that the Xbox X will have backward compatibility. Rockstar could end up releasing the game for Xbox One, knowing that Xbox X users would still be able to play it.
GTA fans may just have to resign themselves to purchasing a whole new console to play the next installment in their favorite franchise.
