Worlds Finals: Picks to Watch
The year leading up to the League of Legends World Championship has been the varied in history, with every single champion in the game being picked at least once in regular season. However, the drafts in this years tournament has been looking pretty stale thus far. FunPlus Phoenix and G2 Esports are two very creative teams when it comes to drafting. It's not everyday you seen tanks in the mid lane, or a Zoe in the bottom lane. Here are some picks to look out for in the upcoming final this weekend.
Tian's Qiyana
Qiyana's release was one of the most underhyped champion releases in a long time. She was brought into the game and for a while, not a lot of players touched her. Over time, people came to realize that she was strong. As an assassin, she is most potent around mid game and can easily destroy back line targets with her insane mobility and burst damage. However unlike most assassins, she has a great team fight ultimate which makes her least likely to fall off. She incredibly is valuable and FunPlus Phoenix has been using it in the jungle role to fight around objectives like Baron Nashor where she is most potent.
Caps's Sylas
With the ability to steal enemy ultimate's, Sylas was bound to make is appearance in professional play once he was announced. He's had a rocky track record, either being too strong or too weak at any given time since his release. Even when he's weak, Cap's has picked him in the LEC Finals over and over again. He hasn't played him yet this worlds, but I expect him too. Being able to steal a Qiyana ultimate might be extremely useful late game, if they don't elect to ban it from FPX
Perkz's Xayah and Hylissang's Rakan
Xayah and Rakan have been a staple in the bottom lane since their release. A safe, scaling lane that brings hard engage and fit into most team comps is hard to pass up. That being said, Perkz and Hylissang have mastered these champions. Perkz hasn't lost a game on Xayah yet, and Hylissang was born to play flashy hard engage champions like Pyke and Rakan. Even if you ban or pick one away from G2 Esports, they aren't afraid to pick the champions on their own when prompted. Technically this is two champions, but the Lover's Duo are a force to be reckoned with in the hands of these capable players.
Of course, G2 Esports has stated that for the finals, they have prepared new strategies and and secret picks that will be interesting to watch. Given that Perkz likes to play mages, I wouldn't be surprised if they put him on Zoe, or they give Hylissang the Yummi he has also spent a lot of time on. We won't know what they've prepared until the finals on November 10th, so be sure to check in then.
