XDefiant Will Not Have SBMM in Casual Multiplayer
By Max Mallow
XDefiant, an upcoming free-to-play class-based arena first-person shooter from Ubisoft, will not have the controversial skill-based matchmaking feature in its casual multiplayer mode.
Executive Producer Mark Rubin announced during the XDefiant Closed Beta Showcase on Twitch that the game will not feature SBMM in its casual multiplayer mode. Rubin said that SBMM can make a game feel stale and can hinder a game's experience. Casual multiplayer modes will feature players that are sometimes better than you or sometimes worse than you.

Those wanting a more competitive experience can look forward to a Ranked playlist set to arrive in Season 1.
Skill-based matchmaking has been one of the most controversial topics in video games in recent memory. Call of Duty specifically has been the game of discussion. Public matches, in many minds, have indeed grown state considering SBMM. The old-school days of pub stopping don't really exist anymore in Call of Duty and FPS fans might have a new alternative in XDefiant.
The XDefiant Closed Beta is currently running until Apr. 23 at 2 p.m. ET so players can try out the shooter before it launches. People can get closed beta access by looking for multiple redemption codes on the internet, or by getting access through Twitch drops.
